From the first two photos you can see the difference a thorough cleaning did to the finish of this guitar (one side has been cleaned, the other has not ). Because refinishing an instrument can cut it's value in half it's advisable to avoid refinishing if at all possible.
This finish while neglected and stained was quite salvageable.
Along with the hearty cleaning it received a new bridge, a new pickguard, a neck neck andt had numerous holes patched near the soundhole where a pickup or electronics had once been mounted. The original neck had been broken more than a decade ago and had been poorly repaired. Replacing the neck offered the owner a positive upgrade as well...an adjustable truss rod. Martin guitars manufactured prior to 1985 were not equipped with adjustable truss rods.
