DiMarzio® Single Coil Pickups
DiMarzio DP111 SDS-1 Guitar Pickup White
Recommended for bridge position.
DiMarzio DP116 HS-2 Guitar Pickup Red
Perfect for use in neck or middle position for guitars with a humbucker in the bridge, or in any position in a classic Strat* configuration. Works well through high-gain racks and preamps. Eric Johnson found that wiring an HS-2 for single coil operation produces an incredible vintage tone. Mixes well with HS-3, or YJM pickups. Also works in H-S-H combinations with the PAF Pro, FRED, Air Classic, or the Humbucker from Hell (See recommended accessories box on this page). *Strat is a registered trademark of Fender.
DiMarzio DP117 HS-3 Guitar Pickup White
DiMarzio EQed the HS-3 guitar pickup with a broad low end while gently rolling back the top. The result is warmth without a glaring high end; just right for the guitar that needs more body and less screech. Hum-free pickup design lends itself to any performance situation. Try the HS-3 pickup in a recording environment-no more dumping your best solo because of single-coil noise on the track. Smooth tone curve produces a sweet overdrive without jagged edges.
DiMarzio DP119 Class of 55 Pickup Black
The Class of '55 is DiMarzio's tightest and brightest single-coil replacement pickup with all the twang and glassy clarity of vintage single coils. Exceptionally clean in the neck position, it also has the elusive "quack necessary for the classic single-coil neck and bridge middle sounds. The coil is insulated from the magnets so it can be safely phase-reversed and unlike many surviving originals from the '50s, the Class of '55 won't squeal at volume or double as an unwanted vocal mic thanks to DiMarzio's advanced wax-potting technology. This is the pickup for moderate output vintage tone with maximum definition for classic sounds in any position.
DiMarzio DP170 Blue Velvet Neck Pickup Creme
The Blue Velvet overcomes the problem of string balance that afflicts most single coils. The vintage magnet stagger wasn't made for light strings with a plain G, so DiMarzio recalibrated it in order to make the strings balance better. The Blue Velvet guitar pickup also features a new winding technique that gives the guitar attack, while keeping that famous single-coil sound. Recommended for all positions but particularly recommended for neck and middle positions on rosewood fingerboard guitars. The 1950s and early '60s produced a wide range of subtly different single-coils. One particular flavor that DiMarzio modeled the Blue Velvet on has a unique tonal balance - very clean and bright bass strings with relatively warm-sounding treble strings. Strictly speaking, the calibrated magnet stagger isn't authentic vintage and neither is the Blue Velvet's ability to reverse phase by wiring black hot and white ground. But both of these are important factors that will improve performance for many players.
DiMarzio DP182 Fast Track 2 Pickup White
Like a Chopper on steroids, the Fast Track 2 is a pedal-to-the-floor, side-by-side, twin-blade monster. It's got 3 times the output of an average single-coil, with a huge midrange punch. It's a bridge-position-only pickup with a powerful crunch and grind designed right in. Mix the Fast Track 2 with Fast Track 1 and Chopper pickups for an extremely hot, tight sound from any guitar with 3 single-coil pickups. Recommended for bridge position for all Strat-style guitars. The dual-blade pole pieces can handle all string-spacing options. Think of it as a single-coil-sized version of the Super Distortion or Super 3. Using a 500K volume control will open up the top end. The best neck and middle pickup combinations with the 2 would be relatively hot models like the Fast Track 1 and Chopper. You can also mix it with models like the Virtual Vintage line, if you're prepared for the jump in power of the bridge position.
DiMarzio DP184 Chopper Pickup Black
The Chopper adds more grunt to the concept of the Fast Track 1. Louder, with more heft in the mids and low-end, it still maintains the kick and high end of true single coils. It shares the same side-by-side coils and twin-blade construction as the Fast Track1 as well as no misaligned poles or string-pull problems. The Chopper works hard as a strong bridge pickup to pump your amp's front-end. Add a pair of Fast Track 1s in the neck and middle for a very large, beefy 3X single-coil sound (See recommended accessories box on this page).
DiMarzio DP186 Cruiser Neck Pickup Creme
No humbucking pickup sounds exactly like a vintage single-coil, but the Cruiser is about as close as it gets. The special dual-resonance design allows one coil to act as a woofer and the other as a tweeter. This extends the range of the noise-canceling design and allows the best qualities of each coil to be enhanced while fine tuning the output. There is less magnetic pull, and it still sounds clean, clear, and bright. Output: 140mV.Recommended for neck position with DP187, or neck & middle with hotter bridge like Fast Track 1, Chopper, Pro Track, or full-size humbuckers (See recommended accessories box on this page).
DiMarzio DP187 Cruiser Bridge Pickup Black
No humbucking pickup sounds exactly like a vintage single-coil, but the Cruiser is about the closest you can come. We make one coil the woofer, and the other the tweeter. This extends the range of the noise-canceling design, and allows us to enhance the best qualities of each coil while fine-tuning the output. DiMarzio calls this their dual-resonance design, and it's patented. There is less magnetic pull, and it still sounds clean, clear, and bright. Recommended for bridge position with DP186, or neck & middle with hotter bridge like Fast Track 1, Chopper, Pro Track, or full-size humbuckers (See recommended accessories box on this page).
DiMarzio DP188 Pro Track Pickup Black
It sounds like a vintage humbucker and will drop right into your Stratocaster. The Pro Track has enough power for any pickup position, and the 2 blades mean there won't be any problems with string alignment or dropouts. In the bridge position, this is a great blues pickup: combine it with a Cruiser (neck) and a Fast Track 1 (middle) for a solid mix. Pair 2 Pro Tracks in the neck and middle positions with a Fast Track 2 by the bridge for a heavy, yet versatile metal sound. Recommended for all positions. Output: 275mV.
DiMarzio DP402 Virtual Vintage Blues Pickup
The Virtual Vintage Blues is almost identical to the original pre-'63 Strat pickup. It has kept the original's attack, tone, and feel, and even preserves its single-coil look. The difference is that DiMarzio has eliminated the noise. Recommended for all positions.
DiMarzio DP415 Area '58 Pickup Aged White
DiMarzio modeled their Area '58 after one of the most celebrated Strat pickups from 1958, with two major differences. The Area '58 has way less magnet pull, and virtually no hum. It's recommended for neck and middle, and can also be used in bridge. A great pickup is clear and bright, but not thin-sounding. A great one makes the sound jump out of the amp when you pick hard and drop way down when you play softly, and the tone varies when the string is picked at different spots. DiMarzio designed the Area '58 to fit this profile exactly. Tech Talk: The Area '58 has obvious similarities to the Virtual Vintage 2.1 it replaces, but there are several non-visible performance factors that have changed. Dynamic range and string definition are greatly increased, leading to improvements in both clean chord-playing and overdriven soloing. The '58 is very sensitive to small height adjustment differences: close to the strings produces a fatter, slightly compressed blues tone and further away yields crystal clean sounds. The final improvement is in noise reduction. All of the Virtual Vintage pickups have better hum cancellation than full-size humbuckers. The Area 58 and Area '61 are even quieter.
DiMarzio DP416 Area '61 Pickup Aged White
Drawing upon the steely, yet woody-sounding tonality of several pickups from the early 60s, DiMarzio has produced a modern version of these vintage gems with no hum and less magnet pull. DiMarzio has been working on serious vintage single-coil design with no hum for eight years, with the goal of capturing the best qualities of guitar pickups from the 1950s and early 60s. The DP416 Area 61 succeeds admirably, is good in all three positions, and is a perfect bridge pickup with a pair of Area 58s if you want to go all the way from Nashville to Texas in one guitar. Tech Talk: Over the last 10 years DiMarzio received hundreds of requests from guitarists asking for the Texas blues sound. This sound is centered on single-coils from the early 1960s, but it's also based on heavy strings and strong hands. The Area 61 captures the tonal bedrock this sound is based on. Like the Area 58, the Area 61 really responds to different pick attacks: played hard, it sounds louder and tougher than you'd expect from a vintage pickup, but it cleans up immediately by picking softer or rolling down the volume control. And like the Area '58, its ability to cancel hum is superior to full-size humbuckers.
DiMarzio Red Velvet Pickup Black
The difference between a vintage Strat bridge pickup sound and a classic Broadcaster or Tele tone is mostly a matter of attack and definition - the Strat stings and screams, while the Tele punches and sings. DiMarzio thought it would be neat to have a Strat pickup that does both, and this is it. The punch comes from the bottom-loaded Power Plate, the sting from custom coil-winding and the Blue Velvet magnet stagger, and a unique mid-range "growl" that's a result of a hand-calibrated magnet structure. Try a Red Velvet bridge pickup with a pair of Blue Velvet pickups for a sound that's both classic and new.Recommended for all positions. Tech Talk: One of the obvious effects of mounting a plate on the bottom of a pickup is to boost the magnetic field. DiMarzio wanted the bigger sound that the plate provides, but they didn't want any increased magnet-pull, so they calibrate the magnetic field of every Red Velvet after it's assembled. The Red Velvet was originally designed for the bridge position, but it will also work well in the neck and middle, where it can be combined with a bridge humbucker like the Air Classic.
